Stella a textile
artist, researcher and teacher currently lives and works here in the North
West.
Her work is an
exploration of the symbiotic relationship shared by humans and textiles and is
rooted in historical British textile craft practice and references the forensic
scientific premise that cloth is like a net, capturing and containing evidence
of the processes through which it has passed and the people with whom it has
had contact.
Using natural
materials such as linen and wool Stella immerses herself in the process of
textile making, ‘living through’ the construction of cloth then, the further
layering of print and stitch on the cloth, finally combining the cloth with the
projected film and animation. The resulting cloth 'fragments' and cropped
soundless moving images encourage the viewer to consider that which is
not seen as being equally important as that which is seen.
