A great start to the New Year for our first branch meeting.
Our speaker was Renu Modha. She gave us a very interesting talk about Indian Embroidery. Renu brought a lot of examples with her for us to closely inspect. She explained the different styles of embroidery used in different regions of India.
Banjara work -embroidered designs based on regular using recycled sari fabric and shisha mirrors.
Phulkari work – where floral designs are worked in a dense satin stitch.
Kashmir embroidered shawls featuring the paisley design.
Banjara embroidery –noted for its lively decoration of shells, coins, tassels, lead and glass beads.
She has her own Studio at Heskin Hall, Chorley, Lancashire where she has introduced ‘Ishvari’, her own range of exquisitely embroidered scarves, stoles, shawls, shrugs and handbags. She uses mainly silk and cashmere.
